Tim can help you create that perfect chilled out ambience for your reception or party
Originally from Cambridge, Tim studied French and philosophy at Leeds University then went on to complete a Post-Graduate Diploma in jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Since graduating in 2000 he has been living in London where he works as a performer, teacher and composer.
Tim has recently formed an exciting new trio with bassist Tom Herbert and Pat Levett and additionally co-leads the Kemp/Lapthorn quartet with saxophonist Josh Kemp. He has also worked with leading players such as Dick Pearce, Gilad Atzmon and Kenny Wheeler. Tim's many influences include Bill Evans, John Taylor and, in particular, Keith Jarrett.
The trio plays original compositions and reworkings of jazz standards with a strong emphasis on improvisation and interplay. Themes are often simple and melodic and the harmony is freeing, thus suiting the open approach of the band. Their debut CD, 'Outlines' consists of six original compositions, one of which was recently featured on BBC Radio 2's Best of Jazz show.
