Jenny Barton

Jenny was born in Nottingham in 1978 to Elson and Barbara Barton; both keen actor/singers who met at their local amateur dramatic society. Her route home from the hospital took her first to the local theatre in Beeston where her parents group were setting up for their next play (this of course was via the Sherwin Arms in Bramcote for a drink). This homeward journey seems in retrospect to have deeply influenced her subsequent path in life...

Whilst at Hollygirt school in Nottingham, Jeanie started to build her own reputation as a singer and actress and used the school’s choir and its annual musical as an opportunity to gather stage skills. Her passion was further encouraged when she successfully auditioned for the National Youth Music Theatre and was cast in a lead role in ‘Warchild’ by Richard Taylor. This new work was developed over 3 years and toured nationally. It offered some wonderful opportunities, such as singing solo accompanied by a 40 piece orchestra, and a 100 strong choir in cathedrals across Britain for audiences including Prince Edward, Tony Blair and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

 

While studying at Warwick University, Jeanie continued to perform in the Warwick Arts Centre and also ventured into direction and composition. Upon graduation she has worked professionally in the theatre, but since moving to London her career has veered mainly towards musical ventures and she now works primarily as a jazz based vocalist, lyricist and composer.

 

She is lucky enough to work regularly with some of the best musicians on the British Jazz scene including, pianists; Robin Aspland, Pete Churchill and Jonathan Gee, Bassists; Steve Rose and Coleridge Goode, and Drummers; Laurie Morgan and Tristan Mailliot.
