Over the past twenty years I have been playing as a professional musician performing in Europe and overseas.

I am a permanent resident in UK and since 1996 I have been available for teaching and world-wide work as a full time band member and/or session musician.

Personal Statement

Lucy was born in South-East London and began learning the violin at age 8. She began her musical aspirations through the Bromley Youth Music Trust, and toured with the chamber orchestra for several years. In 2003 she went to The University of York to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, and she graduated in July 2006 with an upper second class degree. During her time at York she studied the violin with Simon Jones and William Leary. Lucy began her postgraduate studies in violin performance with Eyal Kless in 2006 at The Royal Northern College of Music. She is currently pursuing this and plans to continue for another year. She is an experienced orchestral musician, and as a soloist has received master classes from Hugh Bean, Maxine Kwok, and Yair Kless. She has also played in chamber ensembles throughout her musical training, receiving coaching from the Lindsay Quartet, Alasdair Tait and Christopher Rowlands. This year she held a deputy 2nd violin post in London’s West End show Guys and Dolls, and plays with The London Militaire Orchestra for mayor banquets and functions. During the college holidays she plays with the Britten-Pears Orchestra. Whilst working towards an orchestral and chamber music career, she has a passion for ethnomusicology and is currently writing a book on the Art music of Costa Rica to widen the understanding of musical identity. Her studies are supplemented with a violin teaching post at a private secondary school in Macclesfield and taking part in primary school music workshops. She hopes to work for Artis next year, and make a bit more time for her sideline passion, composition.

Profile:

Born 22nd May 1981 in Cambridge and took up the violin at the age of 3, followed by the piano aged 10 and then the drums at the age of 13.  At that time developed a deep love of jazz and by the age of 14  gigging regularly with assorted jazz groups from trio to big band, involving free improvisation to chart reading, also pit work in musical theatre productions at Cambridge University.

At 15 formed a rock band with school friends and on leaving education, this group, Crackout, went onto sign a recording contract with Virgin Records to release music on the Hut Recordings imprint label.  Toured the world with this band, filmed several music videos, recorded numerous radio sessions – both live and for later broadcast – and recorded in studios across the globe, releasing two full-length albums.

Shortly after Crackout disbanded in 2004 was legendary record producer Clive Langer’s first choice of drummer to play on the soundtrack for the feature film ‘Brothers Of The Head’ (dir.Keith Fulton & Louis Pepe).  After a meeting with the film’s directors, was cast in the film and spent the rest of 2004 recording the soundtrack and filming, gaining valuable insight into the recording, writing, and performance styles and techniques of the 1970s.  Delighted with the quality of his work on Brothers Of The Head then became Clive Langer’s first call drummer and played on various projects of his throughout 2005 continuing to do so to this day, including work with Madness front man Suggs and Kevin Rowland of Dexy's Midnight Runners.

In 2006 was hired by French chanteuse Vanessa Quinones to be the touring drummer for Vanessa & The O’s, touring across Europe with them and recording radio and TV broadcasts.  In addition, was appointed drum tutor to actor Harry Treadaway for his role as Joy Division's Stephen Morris in the feature film ‘Control’ (dir.Anton Corbijn), and formed a new band called Blackholes.

Part of 2007 will be spent touring France, Portugal, Japan, and Thailand with Vanessa & The O's.
